AI Analysis

Recommendation: Hold

South Indian Bank trades at ₹40.96, near 52-week lows with a strong 72% 1-year return but stalled in recent months. Core profitability is recovering with net profit growing QoQ to ₹408 Cr (Mar 2026) and EPS at ₹5.56 annualised, supported by stable ROE of 12.8% and strong asset quality (PCR 79.7%, GNPA declining to ₹1.43 Cr). However, NIM is compressed at 2.58% (below private bank standard of 3.5%), and valuations at P/B 0.98 offer limited upside despite improving fundamentals—a cautious hold pending NIM stabilisation and further recovery confirmation.

Key Strengths:
  • Asset quality improving: GNPA declining QoQ from ₹3.15 Cr (Jun 2025) to ₹1.43 Cr (Mar 2026), with strong PCR of 79.7% providing robust provisioning buffer.
  • Net profit recovery with consistent QoQ growth: ₹322 Cr (Jun 2025) → ₹408 Cr (Mar 2026), driving EPS expansion to ₹5.56 annualised and supporting 12.8% ROE.
  • Strong technical momentum: Tech Score 73.3, BULLISH trend, and RSI 35 (mid-range, not oversold) with price 72% above 52W low, supported by FII inflow (+3.27% QoQ to 24.21%).
Key Risks:
  • NIM compression at 2.58% remains significantly below private bank standard of 3.5%+, constraining profitability expansion and indicating ongoing deposit rate/lending pricing pressure in competitive environment.
  • Low delivery % (4.1%) suggests speculative/intraday-driven trading despite technical bullishness, raising sustainability concerns if institutional momentum reverses.
